MALONGA CASQUELOURD

This event is OUR Weeds-Off ritual in the Congolese tradition for MALONGA, which is an essential dimension of the indigenous Congolese culture. Among many things, it provides a communal support for the bereaved family to officially end mourning and focus on living.

Volunteer recruiting committee

In charge of recruiting volunteers
Communicates with the other committees to see how many volunteers they are in need of
Develops a volunteer schedule up to and during the weekend of events
Finding a host/MC

Publicity Committee

Oversees the publicity of the event, which includes putting together a press kit
Arranging interviews with major newspapers, TV and radio
Create flyers, banners, phone tree
And any other fun creative way to get the word out

Program Committee

Find out who will perform (what groups)
What dances will be done
Organizes the program of the event
Manages the stage by helping the acts to follow the program layout
Communicates with the technical committee regarding the needs of each group in terms of the sound, lighting and background set up
Attends rehearsal in order to establish an entertaining program layout

Technical Committee

Works with the lighting during the show
Design of the stage
Works the sound system

Fundraising Committee

Grant writing
Getting sponsors

Food/Vendor Committee

Registering & collecting money from vendors
